Can I Become a U.S. Citizen?Flag

Many potential clients and family members come to us with questions about their eligibility for U.S. citizenship. In order to apply for citizenship, one must be:

  • A legal permanent resident in the U.S. for five years or,
  • Married to a U.S. citizen for at least three years

It is also important to note that criminal convictions can bar someone from becoming a citizen, even if they meet the above criteria. If you have questions about your specific circumstances, the attorneys at Maiona Ward can review your case and let you know if you qualify for naturalization.

The Advantages of U.S. Citizenship

There are many advantages to going through the naturalization process. As a citizen you will be able to sponsor relatives who wish to immigrate to the United States, you can live and work in the U.S. indefinitely, and you can obtain a U.S. passport. Bestowing United States citizenship on a legal resident is the greatest benefit the United States can pass to an individual.

Call Maiona Ward at 617-695-2220 or contact us online. We will gladly answer your questions regarding the naturalization process.
